Where Used Report

The traditional way to look at inventory assembly items is top down – you look at the inventory assembly item and see what items are used as components. This is the “bill of material” or BOM for the assembly.

Another way to look at your products is bottom up – look at the component item, see which assemblies use it. This is a “where used” view. QuickBooks does not provide this kind of view. You can see this in CCRQBOM by selecting Reports from the main menu, then Where Used.

If, for example, we have two assemblies, “AssyA” and “AssyB”, with components:

The where used report for this would show the components, and the assemblies that use them:

You see that Component1 is used just in AssyA, while Component2 is used in both AssyA and AssyB.

This is very useful if you have to make a substitution for a part due to a shortage or changing requirements – it lets you find each assembly that has to be modified.
