SubAssembly

An item that is an inventory assembly itself, with a bill of materials, but that can also be included as a part of a higher level assembly. For example, if you are building a car from the ground up, the engine would be a subassembly. You have to build the engine, and then add it when you build the car. QuickBooks allows you to add an assembly as a component of another assembly, but it will treat it as just another component part.
